This page introduces Arch Research's contributions to ACM SIGGRAPH Asia 2024
The 17th ACM SIGGRAPH Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques in Asia will take place in Tokyo, Japan at Tokyo International Forum. The annual event, which rotates around the Asian region, attracts the most respected technical and creative people from all over the world who are excited by research, science, art, animation, gaming, interactivity, education and emerging technologies.
The global attention to "anime" expression is exceptionally high, and its digitized production process has significantly raised the importance of R&D. Building on the success of SA ’21 Featured Session around the shared topic, organizers will discuss state-of-the-art advancements and invite participants to collaboratively shape the future.
Jun proposed the session and will participate in this session with Yuki Koyama (Graphinica, Inc., AIST) and Tatsuo Yotsukura (OLM Digital, Inc.).
This session was a great success, with a full room and people standing and watching. First, each company reported on its past, particularly the last three years of industry-academia collaboration from its own perspective.
The following were presented: technical development in cooperation with a university and the prototype of the short film "Forest Tale" (Arch Inc. and Grafinica, Inc.); joint research with AIST on storyboarding tool and the establishment of the animation production tool brand "AnimeCraft" (Arch Inc.); continued development of OLM Tools and a new initiative funded by METI's GENIAC (OLM Digital Inc.)
A lively question and answer session and discussion followed in the subsequent panel discussion. Finally, it was mentioned that the academic research is steadily nurturing the seeds of research and development in industry, and all speakers concluded the session by confirming that they will continue to support creators while deepening industry-academia collaboration.
We developed a practical style transfer pipeline for creating stylized 3D animation, suitable for real-world production. This paper presents insights from our R&D process, balancing quality, artist control, and workload.
With this pipeline, we created an experimental short film titled "Forest Tale".
Arch Research is Arch Inc.'s research and development team that envisions the future of animation from three perspectives:
Empowering animation creators with information technology.
Studying anime in its own right in collaboration with researchers around the globe.
Creating an inclusive, liminal space to gather and envision the future of animation.
